Back to biking

Jim ( Chorley )

After doing my CBT two yrs ago I thought I could ride a bike quite well but thought I would get my riding skills checked out by those who know what they are doing.

The guys at Greenlight rider training showed me even safer and smoother ways of doing things, giving me real life explanations in order to help me remember those important lifsevers and such-like.

Everything was explained in such a way that even I could understand and remember easily.

I am definately going to come back to do My direct acces later this year when it warms up a little. cheers happy riding.

The CBT is a legal requirement that any new rider MUST undertake before being allowed to ride a motorcycle or scooter on a public road.

The CBT course itself usually lasts about 6 hrs. Its not a test and there's no exam but you must reach a required standard to be issued with a CBT certifcate (DL196). This validates your provisional entitlement on your driving licence.

The CBT certificate lasts for 2 years, by which time you may want to go on to do a theory and practical test, or you could just re-sit another CBT course. That's entirely your choice.

There are 5 parts or elements ( as we call them in the business) to a CBT course. All of which must be done in the correct sequence. However, there are parts within an element which can be done in an order to suit your ability. You will be riding on public roads for a minimum of 2 hrs. That is also a legal requirement for you to complete the CBT. If you do less then than that then the training school is not fulfilling its legal obligations to you.

Also they are not fulfilling their legal obligations if they train you with a ratio of more than 4 trainees to one instructor on the training area, and more than 2 trainees to one instructor on the final road element.

Greenlight rider training ALWAYS adheres to the Strict codes of practice set down by the Driving

standards agency. Its your safety we're concerned about, not taking your money and treating the training like a production line.

Before we issue a cbt certificate we ask ourselves if you were OUR son or daughter would we be happy to give you the keys to our 125cc motorcycle or scooter and say go out and enjoy your riding. If the answer is yes then you get your CBT certificate. if not, then we keep on training you until the answer is yes..

Only APPROVED training bodies (ATB) such as Greenlight Rider Training can conduct cbt courses.

Catagory 'P' on a licence means you are entitled to ride a 50cc motorcycle (moped) or scooter if you are 16 or older.

Catagory 'A'. entitles you to ride a 125 cc motorcycle or scooter if 17 or older.

Tip:

Don't modify your 50cc motorcycle or scooter to do more than 30 mph. Its then classed as a motorcycle and your insurance will become invalid. So will your provisional licence if you are 16.
