Here at Greenlight Rider Training we know how hard it is to qualify
as an instructor. The pass rate for being an instructor is very
low, so you need to know your material inside out and be able to
teach and demonstrate it in a safe manner.
Greenlight Rider Training will train you to the highest standards
so that you have the best chance of gaining your licence to teach
first time. It isn't easy and it can be a nerve wracking experience,
BUT with the correct tuition it can be done, and confidently.

One of our instructors attended the assessment recently and passed
at the first attempt. However, he could see the difference in standards
of training between himself and the other schools, which is why
only 2 out of the 5 being assessed achieved the pass.
Greenlight Rider Training would never send anyone for assesment
unless we knew they were capable of achieving it first time. All
that would do is to reflect on the school's training and a long
wasted journey for the candidate. Not to mention the dissapointment,
expense, time, effort etc.
We know how the assesment works, what to say and do (and what NOT
to say and do), how to look for the clues and signals that all is
not well, and many other attributes from our experience. Knowing
these will give you the best possible chance. Preperation for these
assesments is everything.
Failing the CBT1 twice means you can not be re assesed for another
12 months from the date of the second failure. Just ask any of the
instructors we have trained, or come down and have a look at our
training methods before you pay for anything. You will see why we
get it right.

To be able to be considered for training you wil need to meet the
folowing criteria:
-
Be a fit and proper person, ie: no criminal record
-
Have held a FULL unrestricted motorcycle licence for a minimum
of 3 years
-
Have a Clean licence ie: no points

There are currently three types of instructors:
Down trained
This is where the approved training body trains and applies for
the instructors licence to teach. This enables the licence holder
to conduct CBT's only. No big bike training is allowed. There are
two assesments you will need to pass to be able to teach people
to ride motorcycles larger than 125cc

CBT1
The first assesment is a two day assesment carried out at the Driving
standards agency headquarters at Cardington, Bedfordshire. This
consists of usually three candidates in turn being asked to 'teach'
the examiner how to do a certain manouvre or proceedure such as
explaining how to get the motorcycle moving etc. Whilst one person
explains the procedure someone else will have to supervise the instructor
giving the explanation.
If the first candidate gets the explanation wrong and the supervisor
doesen't identify the error then they both get marked down or if
serious enough fail the assesment.
Gaining this qualiification would allow you to open up your own
rider training school and conduct cbt's. but you would still need
to have a DAS instructor to be able to offer test training on the
bigger bikes over 125cc.
We ALWAYS remember that we are dealing with peoples lives so the
training has to be right!
Big Bike (DAS)
This is a half day assessment that is only open to people who have
successfully completed the CBT1 assessment. Consisting of various
scenarios, the candidate may have to teach the examiner about the
machine, the differences between the smaller machines and the bigger
machines (ie power to weight ratio etc).
The candidate will also be expected to ride behind, assess, advise
and possibly demonstrate the correct proceedures for situations
such as dealing with rural roads or approaching roundabouts. Once
you have obtained passes on both CBT1 and DAS assessments then you
can teach people right up to test standard and beyond.
